Reflection and Correction

People usually think of the new year as a new beginning. Business owners consider it to be a time of reflection and correction. They spend December reflecting on what didn’t work for their business and then they create a new plan to try to correct things for the new year. The new year is right around the corner.  In December it’s time to start figuring out what needs to be reconfigured before January rolls around.  Here are some suggestions to start with…
  1. Update your social media profiles… Make sure your photos are relevant to what your business will be working on for the new year.  Update any logos and publish content explaining your plans or changes for the new year.
  2. Commit to a schedule… Stay focused by using a schedule.  Select days where you will work on social media and strategically market to your audience.  Create a task list that is easily accessible and can be edited in seconds.  Start the year with productive habits!
  3. Set action-oriented goals… Goals setting needs to be implemented early in the new year.  Set daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals.  Don’t make resolutions, set realistic goals. They will help you move forward in a productive manner.
  4. Leave your doubts behind… Don’t worry about what “could have been” and think about “what could be” for the new year.  Next year could be the best year ever for your business.  Each year is only as great as you make it.  Focus on the coming year with positive thoughts and actionable goals.
While many business owners become overwhelmed and anxious this time of year, consider these 4 suggestions to help start preparing yourself for a new beginning.  Learn to create value in yourself and your business.  Focus on what “could happen” and start the new year with confidence. Drive Sales During the Holidays

Since holiday shopping starts earlier and earlier each year, it’s a good idea to start prepping your business for the holidays as early as possible.  Mid-November is when many customers begin holiday shopping! If you offer purchases on your website, you need to provide a seamless, fast web experience to your customers.  Not only do you want to make sure your website is fast, but you’ll also want to make sure it is mobile-optimized for convenient shopping.   Shipping costs and cutoffs are extremely important this time of year.  Customers obviously want deliveries before the holidays, so think about offering in-store-pickup when possible. You can offer customers the option to buy online but to pick-up in store.  Or make sure your delivery cut-off dates are not too close to the holidays so you don’t have that added pressure to deliver at the last minute. When emailing out holiday promotions, don’t waste your time by sending certain offers to the wrong shoppers.  Segment your lists.  Invest properly so you can reach the high-value customers that will come back again and again.  Target each segment with content that’s important to only them.  Promote wisely and it will pay off.   It’s crazy enough this time of year, so be wise in your marketing decisions.  Get help if needed.  Start early.  And think smart.  End your year with a high profit-margin and a successful business! Boss or Leader?

There is a distinct difference between a boss and a leader.  Leaders are strong, effective professionals who encourage and motivate their teams.  They create a happy environment that boosts overall morale, which leads to higher productivity.  Bosses view themselves as high authority figures, looking down on their employees, creating poor performance and misunderstood team members. A boss often leads to high staff turnover, less teamwork, fear and unhappiness in the workplace, and can affect the company’s overall brand.  Motivation and encouragement is how leaders create a well organized, uplifting, hardworking team of individuals.  Lead by example!  Show your employees good work ethic and support them when they follow suit. Teach them to learn from their mistakes, don’t blame or shame them.  Nurture and help develop your staff for future successes. Leaders take responsibility.  They appreciate individuality.  They inspire enthusiasm, and they instill confidence.  Ensuring your employees are happy and satisfied with where they are at and where they are going not only allows your business to grow, but it allows your employees to grow.  Providing them with training and opportunities encourages them to be loyal to your business. And loyalty is hard to replace.   Don’t be a boss…be a leader!  You will see a difference in your team and your business! PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo

Thinking Ahead for the New Year

It’s now the final quarter of the year, and you are probably already thinking ahead into 2017.  Do you remember the goals you made for 2016? Here are 4 questions to ask yourself:
  1.  What were your biggest achievements in 2016?
  2.  What were your biggest challenges?
  3.  What goals did you meet in 2016?
  4.  What goals should you set for 2017?
You need to recognize your progress from this year and make changes if you need to for next year.  But, with the holidays coming up, how are you supposed to find the time to work on those goals? Time is one of the biggest excuses a business owner uses for not getting things done. Maybe it’s “time” to evaluate your work life and your personal life.  Where are you spending most of your time?  Where are you spending most of your money?  Make some decisions regarding what’s important and what’s not.  Get your priorities in order, measure them against your goals, and work on new goals for 2017. Don’t get trapped in your business.  Many of us spend every waking hour working at our business.  Don’t just RUN your business…OWN your business.  It’s probably time to delegate those priorities so you can not only meet your goals for 2017, but so you can get out of those everyday operations and start owning your business. Take some time every day to reflect on yourself and your business goals.  What still needs to get accomplished this year?  What’s left to do to meet some of those remaining 2016 goals?  Plan to get them done before you have to start working on your 2017 goals. And remember…make your goals ACHIEVABLE, but keep them CHALLENGING enough to keep you working at your best! PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo
