How to Generate New Ideas (Innovative Thinking)

Where do you seek out inspiration?  How do you keep new ideas flowing?  Are you full of outdated ideas?  Are you settling into a familiar rut? If you’re getting stuck and are actively seeking new ideas, then you’ll want to read the following helpful tips. 1 – Go meet people.  Talking to new people who don’t think like you and who don’t know how you think can freshen up your brainstorming process.  Attend networking events or learning seminars.  Talk to people outside your industry. 2 – Involve your customers.  Since new products or services are often initiated by customers’ problems, involve those customers in your brainstorming sessions. 3 – Travel to different places.  A new adventure may bring forward certain opportunities that will allow you to come across a new idea that may be a big deal back home. 4 – Reinvent an existing idea.  Perhaps an already existing idea can be improved upon.  Take it a step further and offer something more to your customers than the present industry is offering. 5 – Focus on your own goals.  Look around during the day and you might come across several challenges that take a long time or a lot of effort to complete.  You may establish new ideas to solve your problem(s). As a business owner, you’ll need to open yourself up to new avenues and give your brain the time and space it needs to generate new ideas! PJ's New Pic (smaller)ActionCoach-logo

The Value of Happy Customers

The fact is, happy customers are repeat customers.  But, even the best customer service can slip up at some point.  If you get angry customers, it’s important to come up with a solution to make them happy again!  It’s not right to treat these customers as a distraction, or to apologize but take no meaningful steps to make things right.  What’s important is to re-evaluate how you treat your customers and use the following tips to turn unpleasant moments into memorable ones: 1 – Always listen to your customers.  Read their body language.  Listen to their tone of voice and study their facial expressions.  Talk without interrupting.  If you know how to read and respond to the many different kinds of customers you have, you’ll find it easier to make them happy. 2 – Show your customers you understand.  If a customer complains, they usually just want somebody to understand their perspective and who cares about how they feel.  Providing an emotional connection with them will go a long way in making them happy. 3 – Make things right.  Don’t start blaming others or get upset at yourself.  Simply apologize and accept responsibility.  Find a way to make things right with that unhappy customer.  You want to leave a positive impression, not a negative one. Remember that the cost of losing a customer’s business is likely going to be worse than the cost of making them happy.  Look at it as an investment, not an expense. The Benefits of Engaged Employees

Employee engagement is more recognized in today’s workforce because management is finally realizing just how important it is to keep employees happy. But, there is still a low percentage of companies who actively engage employees.  Therefore, disengagement is costing the U.S. billions of dollars annually. It’s important to know the benefits of having engaged employees, and how you can start engaging yours right away. 1 – Employee Satisfaction:  Unhappy employees drains time and money from a company.  When engaged, they feel satisfied within their position.  They have a greater connection to the company.  And their quality of work will improve. 2 – Lower Turnover Rates:  Since hiring and onboarding is expensive, investing time into engaging your employees will help retain top employees and lower turnover rates. 3 – Productivity Goes Up:  When employees are satisfied, they not only improve their quality of work, but they also work faster and harder.  They love what they do, they are engaged in the company, and they feel important. 4 – Loyal Employees:  Engaged, satisfied employees are more loyal to a company.  They become company ambassadors.  Understanding how employees feel about the company they work for also affects how customers feel about the company.  Happy employees, happy customers.   PJ's New Pic (smaller)ActionCoach-logo

Time Management in the Workplace

If you really want to work smarter and be more productive, then you need to change the way you work.  If you think you don’t have enough time to apply time management into your workplace, think again.  It doesn’t matter which time management tips you use, just make sure you use them consistently. Here are some quick time management tips:
  1. Organize your workday into 15-minute chunks.  It’s long enough to get something done, but short enough to find in your day.
  2.  Shut you door to eliminate drop-in visitors.  This is very helpful when you need to concentrate on large projects.
  3. Eliminate distractions.  Send calls to voicemail and turn off email notification.  Check messages in the morning, after lunch, and then again before you leave for the day.
  4. If you are thinking of a million other things that need to get done, write them down.  This will help you to remember them later and you’ll get them out of your head so you can focus on the task at hand.
  5. Create a to-do list.  Schedule tasks in a calendar and cross things off as you complete them.  This not only gets things done, but it will be satisfying as well.
These are all very simple tips that will greatly improve your efficiency and productivity throughout your workday. PJ's New Pic (smaller)ActionCoach-logo
