Good Communication = Business Success

Good communication isn’t just about solving conflicts in the workplace, it’s also about building relationships and building a successful business. Good communication helps employees feel heard.  Good communication makes information easy and clear to understand.  And good communication makes people better listeners.  All of these lead to higher customer satisfaction, happier employees, and increased revenue. When employees feel disrespected, or disregarded, there is often tension or conflict that follow.  If there is good communication within the team, employees can express their needs easier.  This leads to increased performance and higher employee engagement.  This also improves connections between team members, leading to a more positive work environment. Good communication helps create better client relationships.  Communication is different between satisfied and unsatisfied customers.  If employees are trained to communicate effectively, they will be better equipped to handle client relationships.  This leads to happier customers, which also means profits increase. Good communication helps build a better company culture, increases sales and production, enhances employee engagement, and creates a positive environment for innovation. Customer Service Excellence

When you think about customer service, do you usually remember the good experiences, or the bad experiences?  How often do you have really memorable customer service?  Unhappy customers tell their friends about their experiences more than happy customers do.  That’s a lot of lost potential customers!  Your goal should be delivering not just a good or great customer experience to your audience, but an excellent one! Here are a few things you can do to make every customer interaction excellent:
  1. Give your customers as few steps as possible to get the job done.  Don’t make them go through a ton of steps to get something accomplished.  Reduce their effort as much as possible, or do it for them.  Help them solve their problems.  Don’t make them chase their solutions.
  2. Spend time getting to know your customers.  This not only involves them, but it helps you to improve your products or services based on their likes, dislikes, goals, etc.  Creating a personal experience gives your business opportunities to grow.  It also makes your customers feel valued.
  3. Turn a bad customer service experience into a great customer service recovery.  Listen, ask questions, clarify what went wrong, and then start the process of gaining their trust back.  Don’t just walk away from an unsolved problem.

How Managers Can Handle Stressful Workplace Situations

Managers are often in positions where they face stress on a daily basis.  Stress can be handled in many different ways, and the manner in which they deal with the stress depends on the situation.  And if stress is not handles properly, it can take a mental, emotional, and physical toll on everyone involved. Here are some ways managers can handle stress in the workplace: 1 – Find out where the stress is coming from.  Is it related to the specific work an employee is doing or is it a conflict among workers?  The manager needs to better understand the source before it can be fixed. 2 – Learn how to deal with the stress.  Should there be some type of training that needs to be given?  Should more work be delegated out?  The manager should decide what steps need to be taken to alleviate the stress levels. 3 – Deal with conflicts calmly.  Removing workers who may be causing an issue is a way to handle the conflict without embarrassing or reprimanding them in front of others.  Give them a chance to explain.  The manager should try to work out a solution that both parties can agree on. 4 – Be organized.  A lack of organization can cause stress before stressful situations even arise.  Prioritize tasks more efficiently.  Many managers need to work alone on their own tasks, so organizing and delegating where possible can help lesson their stress levels. rsz_2018-headshotActionCoach-logo

Ways to Market Your Business in 2019

For 2019, you’ll want to get creative with your marketing ideas.  Your ultimate goal is to attract new customers.  Business owners really need to think outside the box when it comes to getting people’s attention. Here are a few different marketing ideas to consider using this coming year: – Have contests and giveaways.  Everyone loves to WIN.   Don’t ask too much from your followers in order for them to enter.  Focus more on how you’re getting others to participate.  Focus less on what you’re giving away.  But make sure to align your prize with your target audience. – Use attention grabbing images.  The images you use in digital marketing must tell others what your company is all about.  People should want to click on it because it’s captured their attention.  Put time into these graphics.  The ideas is to hook them before they even visit your website. – Post more pictures and videos on social media.  Give your audience a better idea of who you are and what your business is all about, behind the scenes.  This shows off the authenticity of your business, and allows you to build relationships through engagement. – Create a company blog.  People turn to the Internet to find engaging content.  They want value.  Your goal is for them to visit your website and click on your blog, to find answers to their questions, and to gain real value from your expertise. rsz_2018-headshotActionCoach-logo

Team Building During the Holidays

The holidays are the perfect time to bring team-building activities to any company.  They help relieve stress and teach employees to work together more effectively. Here are some fun team-building activities: – Divide employees into teams.  Challenge the teams to raise money or items for charity. The idea is to get the team members to work together toward a goal.  Decide on a suitable prize for the winning team. – Start a Secret Santa project.  Decide on a cost limit as a team.  Have each team member write down on a piece of paper their name, some gift ideas, and something about themselves that others might not know.  Pass out a name to each person.  Reveal the secret gifts at a company holiday party. – Give employees an intellectual challenge.  Organize a scavenger hunt in the office.  Divide employees into small teams, and supply them with a set of clues for finding certain items.  After they’ve all been found, donate them to a local strategic partner or shelter. – Have a decorating contest.  Encourage employees to decorate their offices in a departmental theme.  Each department will work together to come up with ideas.  Make it fun and encourage original ideas.  Have a potluck dinner to hand out prizes to the winning team(s). Team building activities bring the workplace closer and promotes healthy company culture.  The holidays are a great time of year to provide these opportunities to your staff. rsz_2018-headshotActionCoach-logo

Becoming a Better Public Speaker

If you were asked to speak in front of a room full of professionals, or colleagues, what would you do?  Would you gladly walk to the stage, or sprint in the opposite direction? Most of us would probably decline the offer because of insecurities, nervousness, expectations, or whatever stops us from agreeing to take on the task. Do your hands sweat?  Do your knees shake? Does your heart pound fast? Here’s the thing…even the best public speakers have had these happen to them .  They just may not feel it as strongly as you do because of experience.  Speaking in front of a large crowd is not the most natural activity for anyone.  But, if you want to get better at it, you’ll need to prepare and practice. If you’re in introvert, you’re more likely to get overstimulated and overwhelmed when a room full of people focus on you.  If you’re an extrovert, you’re more likely to thrive on the excitement, even get energized by the thought of actively engaging with your audience. There isn’t an official checklist to change someone into an instant public speaker.  But if you want to learn to become a better public speaker, you’ll need to remember these 3 key principles:  Prepare. Practice. Feedback. You’ll also want to dive deeper into the following: – Be OK with your feelings (like shyness or nervousness).  Recognize them but don’t let them stop you. It’s a natural feeling and it’s part of the process. – Remember to communicate with your audience.  Pay attention to them, instead of feeling self-conscious about yourself.  Find out who they are and what they need. – Plan ahead.  Figure out the best way to get your message out.  Find the perfect way to keep your listeners’ attention. – Outline what you plan to say.  Don’t write out your speech word-for-word. You want your language to feel natural, not scripted. – Listen to your audience.  Don’t just talk to the crowd, communicate by listening as well.  If you speak about a topic that interests your audience, your speech should engage them in great conversation. – Be yourself and be confident.  People notice when others are fake.  Be genuine.  Be yourself.  Focus on your passion and run with it.  Your audience will appreciate you! rsz_2018-headshotActionCoach-logo
