Marketing Mistakes

If you’re a professional who relies on marketing for business growth, then you’ll want to continue reading.  Below is a list of some marketing mistakes that occur often within businesses.  It’s important to learn from these errors and stop them from happening. Don’t be guilty of the following: – Forgetting about cell phones.  Don’t forget about mobile users.  If you have a website, it should be optimized for mobile devices.  If it’s not, you’re essentially turning away customers. Everybody has a cell phone these days.  Make sure you take advantage of that! – Not marketing using videos.  Engaging customers and capturing their attention is what video content marketing is perfect for.  Advertise your business through videos.  Your competition is probably doing it.  Don’t get left out. Create a business YouTube channel and start recording! – Spamming.  Are you sending out emails to those who haven’t given you permission?  Are your emails helpful, educational, and/ore relevant?  Consider segmenting your lists so each subscriber gets exactly what they want in their Inbox. – Not having a call to action.  Do you have a goal for your readers?  Do you expect your customers to do something specific when they land on your website, or get an email from you? If you don’t have a clear call-to-action, potential buyers will get distracted or feel misled.  And you’ll miss the sale.  Always clarify what you want them to do! rsz_2018-headshotActionCoach-logo

Summer Marketing Ideas

It’s now Spring, but Summer is right around the corner.  It’s time to start thinking of marketing strategies to boost your business.  You’ll want to keep your customers engaged during the Summer months. Here are a few strategies to consider: Remember Holidays:  4th of July, Labor Day, and even Back to School are all great promotional occasions for businesses.  A themed email campaign is a great way to promote special sales or events you’re having. Think Local:  Sidewalk sales, street fairs, block parties, and festivals are all great Summer events for businesses to sell their products.  Social channels are often used for these kind of events, which gets businesses more followers as well. Host Your Own Event:  Consider hosting an event for your regular customers. Maybe create a Summer themed party.  And since school is out for the kids, think about doing something especially for families. Summer Giveaway:  People love free products.  So why not design a Summer themed giveaway package, complete with sunscreen, amusement park tickets, and a gift-card to your business!  This is a great way to get new customers!! Networking Mistakes to Avoid

Entrepreneurs and business professionals often attend networking events throughout their careers.  But if they go to these events without being prepared, they will fail. How do you handle networking events?  Do you feel successful when you leave? Here are a few mistakes you should avoid when networking: 1 – Not having a strategy.  Do you have this?  Are you using it at these events?  What is your purpose for attending?  What are you looking to get out of it?  If you do your research and land yourself at the perfect event, with your perfect target audience, if you don’t have a plan you won’t walk away a success. 2 – Focusing on selling only.  Many professionals just throw out sales pitches.  People come to these events to relax, socialize, and create relationships.  Ask questions instead.  Learn about them.  Find out their needs.  Don’t throw your business in their face. 3 – Not following-up after the events.  If you receive phone numbers or email addresses, that is great.  These contacts should be very valuable to you.  If you follow through with a short email or a quick call, you’re telling your new contacts they mean something to you.  They’ll remember you because of your efforts. Stand out above the crowd, and make a lasting impression.  You will succeed! rsz_2018-headshotActionCoach-logo

Ways to Market Your Business in 2019

For 2019, you’ll want to get creative with your marketing ideas.  Your ultimate goal is to attract new customers.  Business owners really need to think outside the box when it comes to getting people’s attention. Here are a few different marketing ideas to consider using this coming year: – Have contests and giveaways.  Everyone loves to WIN.   Don’t ask too much from your followers in order for them to enter.  Focus more on how you’re getting others to participate.  Focus less on what you’re giving away.  But make sure to align your prize with your target audience. – Use attention grabbing images.  The images you use in digital marketing must tell others what your company is all about.  People should want to click on it because it’s captured their attention.  Put time into these graphics.  The ideas is to hook them before they even visit your website. – Post more pictures and videos on social media.  Give your audience a better idea of who you are and what your business is all about, behind the scenes.  This shows off the authenticity of your business, and allows you to build relationships through engagement. – Create a company blog.  People turn to the Internet to find engaging content.  They want value.  Your goal is for them to visit your website and click on your blog, to find answers to their questions, and to gain real value from your expertise. rsz_2018-headshotActionCoach-logo

Strategies for Successful Lead Generation

All businesses should be using lead generation strategies to better meet the needs of their target audience.  To do this, you first have to create captivating content and then use that content to convert visitors to leads. When visitors come to your website, you need to capture their email address.  But just asking for an email address is kind of like saying “We are going to spam you.” Instead, you want to give them something of value in return for their email address.  Some examples are:
  • A free trial
  • A free webinar
  • A free ebook
  • A free whitepaper
  • A free set of tips
Here are some other lead generation ideas that can help prospects instead of pushing them to buy from your company:
  • Create help videos to solve common problems
  • Provide quizzes as a creative way to learn more about them
  • Create a worksheet that simplifies a process
  • Provide a list of useful tools or helpful resources
  • Compile examples or case studies for them to learn from
  • Host a contest or a giveaway
  • Create an email course the includes in-depth topics
  • Provide a checklist for them to download
The main goal is to “exchange” something of value with your audience for their email address, so you can continue to provide support again and again, in hopes of them remembering your brand and eventually turning to you to solve their problems! PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo

Marketing & Sales Teams Should Work Together

Marketing teams answer questions and guide the customers through every point in the purchase process.  They alleviate customer concerns and fulfill customer needs.  But sales teams typically outnumber marketing team by a wide margin, and are usually considered an “expense” when sales teams are considered “revenue.” For a business to be successful, it’s important to have these two teams work together, even though they are two very different pieces of the puzzle. Here are a few things to consider… Establish a clear vision for your marketing team.  Make sure there is clarity and understanding when it comes to their responsibilities..  Leverage marketers to achieve increased sales by presenting the marketing team as thought leaders and problem solvers. Sales teams can produce better revenue growth when they engage with their marketing teams. It’s not uncommon for the marketing team to have very little knowledge of the sales process, and for the sales team to have very little knowledge of the effort it takes the marketing team to generate leads for them.  So, by having the two teams work together, they can learn how to attract the right clients, address problems on both sides, and maintain a competitive edge in the market. Defining Leadership

Every leader has their own style.  And their methods will vary because of the multiple factors they are influenced by.  Here are some examples of what leadership is… 1 – Creating a better environment 2 – Knowing yourself, and your team, very well 3 – Giving your team the tools to succeed 4 – Providing positive, authentic influence 5 – Knowing right from wrong (portray confidence) 6 – Building around a common goal (or goals) 7 – Having the ability to solve problems 8 – Helping others/feeling satisfaction 9 – Building a generation of leaders 10 – Inspiring your team and building followership 11 – Actively listening to others There is not a specific formula to being a good leader.  Leaders should be authentic, have a good personality, and be naturally motivational.  They should want to teach and provide as much leadership as possible to their team.  Great leaders make for great business! Small Talk: Event Tips

Whether we are selling to a customer, networking with colleagues, or meeting with a new prospect, you will be engaged in small talk, building a rapport with casual conversation. Want to master some of these “small talk” skills?  Of course you do.  Here are some tips to guide you through this informal conversation. 1 – Most people can talk very easier about a subject they know more about than a subject they know little about.  But if you ask open-ended questions, the person you’re speaking to may open up and join in the conversation. 2 – Want to prove to the other person that you’re really listening to them?  Remember details of your conversation to bring up later.  Actively listen so they know you are engaged.  You will build stronger connections if you pay attention. 3 – Leave your phone in your pocket or in your car.  Don’t pull it out during conversation.  It’s a huge turn off to others and will send a clear message that you’re not interested. 4 – Go into events and social gatherings with some enthusiasm. Having the right attitude shows you are passionate about what you do.  View these “small talk” occasions as opportunities. You really just never know who you might meet along the way.   And make sure you always have a planned exit.  Here’s a great potential exit line: “This has been great.  So glad we got the chance to meet.  I would love to stay in touch. Do you have a card?” Most of all…have fun, learn something, meet new people. Feel purposeful.   PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo

Team Building: Focusing Your Employees

Do you have clear expectations for your employees?  You may want to set meaningful expectations to ensure your team is focused.   Often more than not, employees don’t have a good understanding of their duties.  Can you provide a detailed list of what each employee needs to accomplish by the end of each day?   Your employees need to understand how their actions can affect the company. They also need to know what they are expected to do, and why.  If they are unaware of your expectations, they often roam aimlessly with no direction or goals.   Once your employees know their expected duties, and clearly have goals in mind to help the company succeed, make sure you reinforce them with motivation.  Continue to remind them that they’re doing a good job, or give constructive criticism when needed.  And consistently review their activities to ensure they are properly carrying out their work. Consider even posting daily, weekly, or monthly team goals for all the employees to see. Getting your employees focused and working as a team does require more time and effort, but remember that a motivated team will bring winning results! PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo

Re-Purposing to Generate Leads

There are several ways to generate leads for your business.  Many entrepreneurs think it’s necessary to bring in suspects like everyone else does.  The truth is, there are many re-purposed ways to generate new leads.  Here are a few: 1.  Re-market:  Do you have a product or service you’ve marketed in the past?  If it’s been awhile since you’ve promoted or launched something, then create a new message and get it out there…again.  Think about updating a few things here and there and then get promoting!  You can promote on social media, on your website, in an email blast, or within your store. 2.  Re-blog:  Do you blog on a very consistent basis?  If you have an archive of hundreds of blog posts, then re-write them.  There’s no need to re-invent the wheel.  You have great content just waiting to be read…again.  You may want to make sure all information is still relevant and maybe change the titles, but that’s all you really need to do. 3.  Re-engage:  Don’t forget that you already have a HUGE database of clients and fans of your business.  Re-engage them!  Ask them to refer you to somebody who doesn’t know anything about your business.  Give them a special discount for sharing your business with others!  Use what’s already at your fingertips! Reaching out to your audience doesn’t have to seem like rocket science.  You have so many options within your reach, so why not use them to your advantage!  Re-purposing can save time and money.  And it’s all within your reach. YOUR CHALLENGE:  Try one of these approaches during the last quarter of the year! How many new leads do you think you’ll generate? If you would like further information or you have any questions about this blog, you can email me at pjweiland@actioncoach.com or call 847-739-3079.
