Marketing Mistakes

If you’re a professional who relies on marketing for business growth, then you’ll want to continue reading.  Below is a list of some marketing mistakes that occur often within businesses.  It’s important to learn from these errors and stop them from happening. Don’t be guilty of the following: – Forgetting about cell phones.  Don’t forget about mobile users.  If you have a website, it should be optimized for mobile devices.  If it’s not, you’re essentially turning away customers. Everybody has a cell phone these days.  Make sure you take advantage of that! – Not marketing using videos.  Engaging customers and capturing their attention is what video content marketing is perfect for.  Advertise your business through videos.  Your competition is probably doing it.  Don’t get left out. Create a business YouTube channel and start recording! – Spamming.  Are you sending out emails to those who haven’t given you permission?  Are your emails helpful, educational, and/ore relevant?  Consider segmenting your lists so each subscriber gets exactly what they want in their Inbox. – Not having a call to action.  Do you have a goal for your readers?  Do you expect your customers to do something specific when they land on your website, or get an email from you? If you don’t have a clear call-to-action, potential buyers will get distracted or feel misled.  And you’ll miss the sale.  Always clarify what you want them to do! rsz_2018-headshotActionCoach-logo

Ways to Market Your Business in 2019

For 2019, you’ll want to get creative with your marketing ideas.  Your ultimate goal is to attract new customers.  Business owners really need to think outside the box when it comes to getting people’s attention. Here are a few different marketing ideas to consider using this coming year: – Have contests and giveaways.  Everyone loves to WIN.   Don’t ask too much from your followers in order for them to enter.  Focus more on how you’re getting others to participate.  Focus less on what you’re giving away.  But make sure to align your prize with your target audience. – Use attention grabbing images.  The images you use in digital marketing must tell others what your company is all about.  People should want to click on it because it’s captured their attention.  Put time into these graphics.  The ideas is to hook them before they even visit your website. – Post more pictures and videos on social media.  Give your audience a better idea of who you are and what your business is all about, behind the scenes.  This shows off the authenticity of your business, and allows you to build relationships through engagement. – Create a company blog.  People turn to the Internet to find engaging content.  They want value.  Your goal is for them to visit your website and click on your blog, to find answers to their questions, and to gain real value from your expertise. rsz_2018-headshotActionCoach-logo

Get a Jump Start on Holiday Marketing

With the holidays fast approaching, it’s important to start thinking about your holiday marketing plan now.  Here are some tips that may help make this holiday season a more profitable one for your business:
  1. Start a seasonal campaign before everyone else does.  Avoid fighting all the noise.  Get your plan ready to launch before everyone is expecting it.
  2. Don’t reinvent the wheel.  Use holiday marketing materials/ideas from past successful years.  Save the content and reuse it again next year.
  3. Change images and marketing content on your website to promote seasonal events or upcoming holidays.  Add snowflakes or fall foliage to enhance your online presence.
  4. Try to customize your services/products to what your customers need.  Provide these based on the current season or upcoming holiday.  This helps you leverage those limited customer needs that may only come around once a year.
  5. Create a strategy early, to plan out holiday discounts, or create free giveaways to kick off the new year.  These seasonal plans boost sales and are great for business.
  6. Set time aside to start sending personal holiday notes to your customers/clients.  Take this opportunity to connect with your audience so you are at the top of their mind this holiday season.

Strategies for Successful Lead Generation

All businesses should be using lead generation strategies to better meet the needs of their target audience.  To do this, you first have to create captivating content and then use that content to convert visitors to leads. When visitors come to your website, you need to capture their email address.  But just asking for an email address is kind of like saying “We are going to spam you.” Instead, you want to give them something of value in return for their email address.  Some examples are:
  • A free trial
  • A free webinar
  • A free ebook
  • A free whitepaper
  • A free set of tips
Here are some other lead generation ideas that can help prospects instead of pushing them to buy from your company:
  • Create help videos to solve common problems
  • Provide quizzes as a creative way to learn more about them
  • Create a worksheet that simplifies a process
  • Provide a list of useful tools or helpful resources
  • Compile examples or case studies for them to learn from
  • Host a contest or a giveaway
  • Create an email course the includes in-depth topics
  • Provide a checklist for them to download
The main goal is to “exchange” something of value with your audience for their email address, so you can continue to provide support again and again, in hopes of them remembering your brand and eventually turning to you to solve their problems! PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo

Marketing & Sales Teams Should Work Together

Marketing teams answer questions and guide the customers through every point in the purchase process.  They alleviate customer concerns and fulfill customer needs.  But sales teams typically outnumber marketing team by a wide margin, and are usually considered an “expense” when sales teams are considered “revenue.” For a business to be successful, it’s important to have these two teams work together, even though they are two very different pieces of the puzzle. Here are a few things to consider… Establish a clear vision for your marketing team.  Make sure there is clarity and understanding when it comes to their responsibilities..  Leverage marketers to achieve increased sales by presenting the marketing team as thought leaders and problem solvers. Sales teams can produce better revenue growth when they engage with their marketing teams. It’s not uncommon for the marketing team to have very little knowledge of the sales process, and for the sales team to have very little knowledge of the effort it takes the marketing team to generate leads for them.  So, by having the two teams work together, they can learn how to attract the right clients, address problems on both sides, and maintain a competitive edge in the market. Strategies for New Entrepreneurs

It’s easy for new entrepreneurs to become overwhelmed when running a business.  Staying focused on your goals is essential. And even if you have a concrete plan in place, you should still consider doing these few things to ensure success.   1 – Do research and KNOW who your competitors are.  Use their weaknesses to your advantage.  Your business will stand out more if you have a better direction. 2 – Make sure you have a few months of operating expenses in the bank.  There are always rough patches that arise and if you’re thrifty enough with your money, those hard times won’t pull you (or your business) under.  Be prepared. 3 – Find a niche. Don’t try and expand to large markets right from the start.  Niche marketing is often cheaper and will lead you to more targeted customers.  Create your business around your niche, including your company slogan.   4 – Listen to your customers.  Actively listen to what they have to say.  Take their considerations and change your marketing plan if needed.  Respond to new trends and even request new ideas.   5 – Your new business is always going to change.  Be prepared to accept the changes and adapt to them accordingly. And be flexible.  Know that where you start now is not where you’ll end up. PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo

How to Reach Your Audience

When running a small business, it’s best practice to develop a solid marketing strategy.  One of your main goals is to rise above the competition.  You not only want to reach your target audience, but you want to appeal to your niche customers so you get more out of your marketing plan. We all know that it’s best to stand out as the number one expert in your field.  That is why it’s extremely important to start with your niche customers.  You want to focus on a tight market so you can reach new leads faster, with a higher chance of turning them into buyers. Here are some tips to reach your target audience:
  1. Find out what value your business brings to your customers.
  2. Identify how much customers spend with you, and how often.
  3. Send surveys on a consistent basis for feedback to make improvements.
  4. Track the activity of your top competitors to find the value they provide their customers.
  5. Reposition yourself in the market by re-branding or adjusting pricing, if needed.
  6. Update your marketing plan to reflect any changes in customer spending.
Remember that building relationships with, and listening to, your customers not only gives you the opportunity to find that specific niche, but it provides your business with the opportunity to grow.  Don’t let your business get stuck, or lost in the shuffle. Consistently make changes based on what your audience wants and needs.  Rise above the rest and STAY the expert in your field. PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo

Drive Sales During the Holidays

Since holiday shopping starts earlier and earlier each year, it’s a good idea to start prepping your business for the holidays as early as possible.  Mid-November is when many customers begin holiday shopping! If you offer purchases on your website, you need to provide a seamless, fast web experience to your customers.  Not only do you want to make sure your website is fast, but you’ll also want to make sure it is mobile-optimized for convenient shopping.   Shipping costs and cutoffs are extremely important this time of year.  Customers obviously want deliveries before the holidays, so think about offering in-store-pickup when possible. You can offer customers the option to buy online but to pick-up in store.  Or make sure your delivery cut-off dates are not too close to the holidays so you don’t have that added pressure to deliver at the last minute. When emailing out holiday promotions, don’t waste your time by sending certain offers to the wrong shoppers.  Segment your lists.  Invest properly so you can reach the high-value customers that will come back again and again.  Target each segment with content that’s important to only them.  Promote wisely and it will pay off.   It’s crazy enough this time of year, so be wise in your marketing decisions.  Get help if needed.  Start early.  And think smart.  End your year with a high profit-margin and a successful business! Networking as a Marketing Strategy

Network (all-free-download)
The #1 reason businesses “network” is to increase leads to the business and make more money. When you ask a business owner where “networking’ ranks in importance in their marketing plans most will always say it’s in the top 3 strategies. So, if the #1 reason businesses join BNI, join a chamber, or other group is for networking and networking is one of the top marketing strategies…then it begs the question: What are you doing, reading, or attending to increase your knowledge and skills in networking? Here are some tips to make your networking an effective marketing strategy… Before you head out the door….
  • Be clear on ideal customers
  • Identify the best networking functions to attend (find out from others where your ideal customer ‘hangs out’)
  • Set goals for how many new prospects you’d like to meet at the event
In the moment….
  • Top 4 things that must exist if someone is going to buy from you: They must like you, believe you, have confidence in you, and trust you (if all four exist, they may buy from you. If any one of the four is missing, they will never buy from you.)
  • Of these four things (like, believe, confidence, and trust), like is the most important. It is the “ticket in the door”. A prospect must like you before they will ever believe you, have confidence or trust you. No one ever says, “I trust that person but I don’t like them…”
  • The “close” in networking is to get an ideal target to agree to a one-on-one follow-up meeting. Get a very specific commitment if possible.
After you connect with someone….
  • Prompt follow-up (Have a system for same day if possible.)
  • Send a personal note by mail! (The average worker in the U.S. gets 52 emails a day and over 50% are deleted without opening. 6 billion individual pieces of mail are delivered each year in the U.S. – 75% are thrown in the trash without opening. But, over 90% of handwritten, hand addressed notes are opened and viewed – which statistic do you choose?)
