Boss or Leader?

There is a distinct difference between a boss and a leader.  Leaders are strong, effective professionals who encourage and motivate their teams.  They create a happy environment that boosts overall morale, which leads to higher productivity.  Bosses view themselves as high authority figures, looking down on their employees, creating poor performance and misunderstood team members. A boss often leads to high staff turnover, less teamwork, fear and unhappiness in the workplace, and can affect the company’s overall brand.  Motivation and encouragement is how leaders create a well organized, uplifting, hardworking team of individuals.  Lead by example!  Show your employees good work ethic and support them when they follow suit. Teach them to learn from their mistakes, don’t blame or shame them.  Nurture and help develop your staff for future successes. Leaders take responsibility.  They appreciate individuality.  They inspire enthusiasm, and they instill confidence.  Ensuring your employees are happy and satisfied with where they are at and where they are going not only allows your business to grow, but it allows your employees to grow.  Providing them with training and opportunities encourages them to be loyal to your business. And loyalty is hard to replace.   Don’t be a boss…be a leader!  You will see a difference in your team and your business! PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo

Inspire Your Employees

Employee 1 Are your employees unmotivated?  Are they listless?  Maybe they’re disinterested in their work?  Then it’s time to inspire them!  Inspired employees want to use their skills to their fullest potential.  And you want them to passionately strive to achieve company goals. Give your workers an added jolt of energy.  Help them love coming to work every day!  You may be asking, “How do I accomplish this?” If your employees are filling their basic needs with their paychecks, then they often need meaningful work to stay motivated.  They need to see their ability to make a difference and a contribution.  Meaningful work helps employees perform at their peak and to play a vital role in the success of your business. Look at yourself first: If you are not passionate about your business, then chances are, you are not able to inspire your employees. Re-energize your own enthusiasm about your business! Focus on the talents of the employees: When people get to do what they love and what they do best, they often perform at their highest abilities, giving your employees the option to shine. Reward your employees: If you have motivated employees who take smart risks and help achieve a company goal, make sure you reward them.  It will not only boost their morale, but it will inspire them to do achieve again and again. Thank your workers: Remember to express your gratitude.  Inspired employees are worth their weight in gold. Do what you must to keep them happy…and on the payroll. FUN is a MUST!

Amped 11One non-negotiable rule that I stress with my clients, as their coach, is FUN.  I require that whatever we do together must be fun.  If it is not fun, then we stop and figure out why, and then we make it fun. Why do I require “fun” you ask?  This is probably now a question raised in your mind.  Fun is a reaction to a circumstance…a feeling…a sense…a result…an experience.  How can I require a feeling or emotion?  It sounds kind of weird, doesn’t it? Well, fun is a paradigm.  It is a choice to find business (and life) amusing and entertaining.  When someone chooses to have fun, they seem to fully participate.  Other people will enjoy being around you when you have fun.  You will be more energetic.  You will be healthier.  You will have a better frame of mind to solve problems.  You will be more creative.  You will also most likely be more gracious, forgiving, and not so serious.  You will come from a place of GAME vs SHAME. What a great choice!!  What a fantastic place to come from!!  There are definitely serious problems in the business (and in life), but they are better solved when you decide to smile and take pleasure in working through them.  Have fun today!!  Remember to have fun every day!!  It could change the way you do business…for the better!! Appreciation

With the conclusion of 2014, let’s all reflect on those that have played a role in our successes during the past year. Family. They can often be the unsung heroes as we dole out appreciation. They provide the spoken and unspoken support and belief in who we are and what we are able to achieve. Friends. Throughout our lives we accumulate people of significance that we connect with and find ourselves sharing our lives with. Sometimes these friends are constants in our daily lives and other times they appear and reappear at just the right times. We appreciate the gift of friendship with no expectations or strings attached. Clients. We would not be in business without our clients or customers. Each and everyone of them has given of their trust that we will provide them with products or services that will fulfill their needs. Many times our clients can also provide us with the opportunity to learn or to grow in our business so that we may serve them to the best of our ability. We appreciate the trust they have placed in us and the opportunity to build on that relationship. Team Members. Whether you have a team of folks in your office, or a virtual team of ‘go to’ resources, they are on our side and are often the ones that make it all happen. We appreciate their willingness to get things done, to produce, to make our lives easier and our businesses operate. And last but not least – each of you. We have made an effort to get to know each other, both personally and professionally. We have listened, offered advice, provided connections, made referrals and done business. In the words of Ralph Marston:

Make it a habit to tell people thank you. To express your appreciation, sincerely and without expectation of anything in return. Truly appreciate those around you, and you’ll soon find many others around you. Truly appreciate life, and you’ll find that you have more of it.
