Powerful Networking

In business, the people you know and the connections you make have a powerful impact on your success.  Your professional and personal network becomes your net worth.  To grow your sales you must work hard at building relationships with your customers. To continuously grow and maintain your network, it’s necessary to attend networking events regularly.  It’s also important to create a plan.  Here are some tips to powerful networking:
  1. Before attending an event, try and get your hands on an attendance list so you can plan to network with the individuals who match your target customers.
  2. Focus on meeting only a handful of qualified contacts so you can successfully follow-up with them after the event.  Keep your goal simple…don’t over network.
  3. When you’re at an event, make sure you actively listen to others.  Plan to listen first and give valuable, relative information second.
  4. After the event, follow-up within 48 hours.  Connect with them on LinkedIn and send them an email.  The follow-up is your fortune!!
Making contacts, assisting others, and establishing relationships is extremely important for any entrepreneur. They’re all a form of networking and they all play an important role in growing your business! PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo

Drive Sales During the Holidays

Since holiday shopping starts earlier and earlier each year, it’s a good idea to start prepping your business for the holidays as early as possible.  Mid-November is when many customers begin holiday shopping! If you offer purchases on your website, you need to provide a seamless, fast web experience to your customers.  Not only do you want to make sure your website is fast, but you’ll also want to make sure it is mobile-optimized for convenient shopping.   Shipping costs and cutoffs are extremely important this time of year.  Customers obviously want deliveries before the holidays, so think about offering in-store-pickup when possible. You can offer customers the option to buy online but to pick-up in store.  Or make sure your delivery cut-off dates are not too close to the holidays so you don’t have that added pressure to deliver at the last minute. When emailing out holiday promotions, don’t waste your time by sending certain offers to the wrong shoppers.  Segment your lists.  Invest properly so you can reach the high-value customers that will come back again and again.  Target each segment with content that’s important to only them.  Promote wisely and it will pay off.   It’s crazy enough this time of year, so be wise in your marketing decisions.  Get help if needed.  Start early.  And think smart.  End your year with a high profit-margin and a successful business! Thinking Ahead for the New Year

It’s now the final quarter of the year, and you are probably already thinking ahead into 2017.  Do you remember the goals you made for 2016? Here are 4 questions to ask yourself:
  1.  What were your biggest achievements in 2016?
  2.  What were your biggest challenges?
  3.  What goals did you meet in 2016?
  4.  What goals should you set for 2017?
You need to recognize your progress from this year and make changes if you need to for next year.  But, with the holidays coming up, how are you supposed to find the time to work on those goals? Time is one of the biggest excuses a business owner uses for not getting things done. Maybe it’s “time” to evaluate your work life and your personal life.  Where are you spending most of your time?  Where are you spending most of your money?  Make some decisions regarding what’s important and what’s not.  Get your priorities in order, measure them against your goals, and work on new goals for 2017. Don’t get trapped in your business.  Many of us spend every waking hour working at our business.  Don’t just RUN your business…OWN your business.  It’s probably time to delegate those priorities so you can not only meet your goals for 2017, but so you can get out of those everyday operations and start owning your business. Take some time every day to reflect on yourself and your business goals.  What still needs to get accomplished this year?  What’s left to do to meet some of those remaining 2016 goals?  Plan to get them done before you have to start working on your 2017 goals. And remember…make your goals ACHIEVABLE, but keep them CHALLENGING enough to keep you working at your best! PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo
YOUR CHALLENGE:  Take 10 minutes each day to reflect on your business!  Do you want to work less next year? If you would like further information or you have any questions about this blog, you can email me at pjweiland@actioncoach.com or call 847-739-3079.

Coach Your Brain!

Feeling like your business life is full of distractions?  Just our digital devices alone make us hard to focus.  Now think about all you have to juggle during your working hours and how staying focused and productive is often extremely hard to do. As an Entrepreneur, you have to worry about employees, customers/clients, phone calls, follow-ups, emails, meetings, inventory, and the list goes on and on… Here are some tips that may help your brain multitask without becoming overloaded or overwhelmed! Your brain gets excited when you are doing a lot of tasks at once, but the downside is that we often make mistakes while multitasking.  So here are some ways in which we can coach our brain to focus:
  1.  At the beginning of your day, work on your toughest tasks first.  As the day goes on, our brain gets tired.  So leave the more mindless work for later in the day.
  2. Find your ultimate “focus” time each day, and work on your toughest tasks at that time.  Do you work better in the morning?  Are you more focused in the evening? Choose your time and allow yourself to coach your brain back to focus mode.
  3. Practice concentration by giving yourself time to focus on only ONE task at a time.  This helps us to retrain our brain from distraction mode to focus mode. If you put aside 30 minutes each day to “focus” your brain, then that short distraction time will allow yourself to stay more focused throughout the day.
Our brains are mainly trained to be unfocused because we spend so much time multitasking.  It’s time to coach your brain into a new pattern so focusing isn’t so hard and multitasking becomes easier.  Your owe it to yourself…and your business! PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo

The Power of Networking

If you share the entrepreneur spirit, you most likely succeed in networking. (2)           Networking is extremely important for entrepreneurs.  Communication is a productive approach to building strong relationships with others.  Networking helps professionals feel inspired and gets them motivated.  Exceptional opportunities can occur if you impress potential business partners.  Networking is powerful! Organized events bring together highly-skilled and talented entrepreneurs who want to unite, share common interests, create and develop ideas, and meet potential clients/investors.  You are all looking for connections, inspiration, advice, and opportunities. Remember, when attending a networking event, you need to be yourself.  Present your company the way you want other people to see it.  Approach networking as any other part of your business.  Create an action plan…with specific goals to accomplish during your networking time.  Since your time is very important, you don’t want to waste it. Be ready to impress…be active and memorable.  Provide value to others.  Make them want to introduce themselves to you and stay in touch with you even after the event. Be remembered! Follow-through with what you get out of the event.  Once you meet others and establish a relationship, make sure you get their business card.  Stay in touch and manage to continue communication outside of the event…this is the foundation for a strong relationship. If you share the entrepreneur spirit, you’ll most likely succeed in networking.  Don’t just show up!  Don’t expect others to come to you!  Be present and use your uniqueness to build a strong network.  Your business will thank you! How to Convert Employees into Team Members

How to Convert Employees into Team Members (2) Wondering why your employees don’t take more ownership?  Do your employees have an entitlement mentality?  Want to know how to get your workers to care more about their jobs? Does it seem as if everyone just works for a paycheck? These questions come up often in my business.  I hear many complaints about work ethic and mentality issues.  I do believe the root cause of this is a LACK of strong leadership! Yes…YOU are the reason your workers are not stepping up! Reality:  You currently have the team that you deserve.  Want a better team?  Then learn how to build one.  Ultimately you want the RIGHT people in your business. Ask yourself these two questions: 1.  If any of your workers left your business today, would you feel good or bad? 2.  If you knew when you hired your worker what you know about them now, would you hire them today? Your answers will tell you if you have the RIGHT people in your business.  If you want a great business team, then you have to be proactive and make sure all your workers are RIGHT for your business. Once you have the RIGHT workers, then you will need to decide what position is RIGHT for them.  You are the one who will determine this!  As a leader, you need to build your team around the strengths of each worker.  It is crucial to create, define, and clearly communicate descriptions for each worker/role in your business. A strong team starts with a strong leader.  Share what spires common vision, missions, and values.  Make sure that each team member knows their role, how they are going to be measured and compensated, and facilitate clear action plans for the team. You need to work ON the business.  It will bring huge returns in profit and happiness. Feel free to contact me if you need help getting rid of mediocre employees…roll up your leadership sleeves and work ON your business…today!! PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo

How significant is YOUR problem?

Problem - Opportunity Here is something to ponder… The sun is so large that, if it were hollow, it could contain more than one million worlds the size of our earth. There are stars in space so large that they could easily hold 500 million suns the size of ours. There are about 100 billion stars in the average galaxy.  When I hear numbers like 100 billion, I have no comprehension.  If you can follow me, this may give you some idea.  If we counted to 250 every minute—day and night—it would take us about 1,000 years to count to 100 billion. That’s how many stars are in an average galaxy.  And there are at least 100 million galaxies in the known universe.  That is 10 times as many stars as there are grains of sand on all the world’s beaches and deserts put together.  These are only the stars we can see with the Hubble telescope. So, taking all this information into consideration, tell me…how significant is YOUR problem?  It is all context and all relative.  Would you like to have a shift of thought and perspective?  Then let’s have a conversation.  Your problems will change to opportunities. Significance changes with a change of perspective, as do outcomes. Remember this…great coaching conversations shift perspective and therefore can significantly change your results.    Let’s talk!! FUN is a MUST!

Amped 11One non-negotiable rule that I stress with my clients, as their coach, is FUN.  I require that whatever we do together must be fun.  If it is not fun, then we stop and figure out why, and then we make it fun. Why do I require “fun” you ask?  This is probably now a question raised in your mind.  Fun is a reaction to a circumstance…a feeling…a sense…a result…an experience.  How can I require a feeling or emotion?  It sounds kind of weird, doesn’t it? Well, fun is a paradigm.  It is a choice to find business (and life) amusing and entertaining.  When someone chooses to have fun, they seem to fully participate.  Other people will enjoy being around you when you have fun.  You will be more energetic.  You will be healthier.  You will have a better frame of mind to solve problems.  You will be more creative.  You will also most likely be more gracious, forgiving, and not so serious.  You will come from a place of GAME vs SHAME. What a great choice!!  What a fantastic place to come from!!  There are definitely serious problems in the business (and in life), but they are better solved when you decide to smile and take pleasure in working through them.  Have fun today!!  Remember to have fun every day!!  It could change the way you do business…for the better!! Money Fear: Solve your Puzzle

Money Fear If you are a small business owner, you are probably familiar with MONEY FEAR! Are you going to let facts guide your fear, or will you retell your story to solve your puzzle? Like all fear, money fear is not caused by your circumstance.  Money fear comes from your story about your circumstance…a future story about a current circumstance. You don’t know the future, but it feels real and impending, and it only exists in your mind.  How do you deal with nightmares?  You wake up.  How do you deal with money fear?  You wake up.  It’s not a huge financial crisis, it’s simply a math puzzle.  You protest and find yourself listing facts, not telling stories.  “You don’t know my situation!!  I’m drowning in debt.  My house is in foreclosure and I may become homeless.  I have stacks of unpaid bills and am hounded daily by collectors.  My credit cards are maxed.”   Descriptions like drowning, devastation, overwhelm, depression, and hounding, create feelings of anxiety, a rise in blood pressure, depression, and stress.  To effectively address the situation, you need to be astute, present, fully functioning, and ready to take action. I suggest that you drop your current nightmare story and retell it.  You have a challenging puzzle to solve.  You have an interesting mountain to climb, and an exciting adventure to walk through.  You are still alive, and thinking, and have some friends and family and resources to help you.  Once you reframe your story, you need to list the objective facts in writing.  Then create a strategic, prioritized response and action plan.  And then get into action.  It may take many steps, several months or years, even most of your remaining life to solve this puzzle.  But fear, depression, devastation and high-level stress are all optional, counterproductive, and unnecessary.   PJ's Pic  ActionCoach-logo

Being Understood Starts with Understanding

Being Understood (2) “I just don’t understand why they don’t listen to me!”  Have you ever had that thought? Do you have employees?  Do you network?  Do you go to meetings?  Do you feel as though nobody listens to you? The fact is that people do not listen and understand you because you are not listening to them.  You talk, explain, analyze, preach, propose, and offer advice and instruction.  The reason that they do not listen and understand is because you have not listened and understood them.  You will understand them only when you listen to them. Understanding them leads to you being understood.   First, ask an open-ended question (Who, What, When, Where, and Why).  Then, be present.  Be engaged.  Quietly listen.  Then ask another question.  Feel where they are.  See how they see you.  Then ask another question.  Listen for a long time, without offering your wisdom or giving solutions.  Just listen and UNDERSTAND.  After truly understand them will you be truly understood yourself. When you truly respect and listen, and understand another human being, it opens the possibility for a real conversation.  What they understand is that you care and that you truly understand and respect them.  They might even ask you a question, and seek to understand you.  Now wouldn’t that be an interesting response, that they want to listen to you? If you are ready to be heard.  If you have something valuable to share.  If YOU want to be understood, you have you start with understanding! PJ's Pic  ActionCoach-logo
YOUR CHALLENGE THIS WEEK:  Listen to somebody this week.  Don’t just listen, but fully understand them.  Do they ask you questions in return?  Do you end up being fully understood yourself?
