Customer Appreciation

Everyone likes to feel appreciated, including your customers. There are ways to prove your appreciation and to make them feel good about your business.  Here are some tips on how to make your customers feel valued.
  • Anyone within your company who regularly interacts with certain customers, they should remember them by their name. If it’s over the phone or in person, the small gesture of speaking to a customer and using their name every time will tell them that you value them.
  • Invite your regular customers to special events.  Show them that you appreciate their business.  Invite them to an after-hours sale or give them a special discount on items they regularly purchase.
  • Support your customers by telling others about their business (if they have one). Refer your customers to them.  They may reciprocate and refer some of their customers to you.
  • Always keep and deliver on your promises to your customers.  Say what you mean and mean what you say.  Don’t back out at the last minute or forget that you made a promise in the first place.  You want them to feel valued and special. Make that extra effort to go that extra mile.
  • Ask your customers for their feedback.  Ask them for suggestions and ideas.  They love your business and probably want to help you continue to succeed.  And, asking them for help makes them feel valued and special.  Everyone likes that.

Project Management Rules for Business Owners

We all want our team members to work productively. As business owners, and often the lead of the team, we need to make management decisions to make sure projects are followed through.  Nothing is perfect, but here are 5 rules to follow to effectively lead your team in the right direction. Rule 1: If you are not an organized, persuasive, and efficient person, then you should consider hiring a project manager to lead your team. Rule 2:   Make sure all team members know what’s expected of them so there are no conflicts or unnecessary surprises. Rule 3:   Give your team all the steps/resources needed to make projects easier to manage. Rule 4:   Document all project activities to keep things flowing smoothly and efficiently. Rule 5:   Something will go wrong, so budget enough (extra) time to wrap up every project. PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo

Accountability = Responsibility

When owning a business, you quickly learn that being accountable means being responsible.  Leadership positions come with a list of duties (responsibilities).  Accountability is holding yourself to a high enough standard (and having the knowledge and characteristics) to actually complete the list. Business owners need to display a positive work ethic and take pride in their work.  They must ensure the job is done and accept responsibility for the results.  They are serious in character and go the extra mile when needed. Accountability and Responsibility go hand-in-hand.  To run a successful business, everyone is equally responsible for their tasks.  All employees should work together and toward the same goals.  Leaders need to be held accountable for the work of their team members.  This often means building strong teams and using motivational techniques. Here are some suggestions to help run a more productive and efficient workplace: 1 – Create task lists for each employee so they know what is expected of THEM. 2 – Introduce incentive programs so your employees are motivated to reach common goals and beyond. 3 – Individually award each employee for putting in the time, making the effort, and following through with their responsibilities. Inspiring others, making it meaningful to you and your team, and teaching valuable lessons makes for a successful leader.  Holding yourself and your team accountable, reaching goals beyond what is expected, and carefully managing time makes for a successful business.  PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo
YOUR CHALLENGE:  Hold yourself accountable for everything you do.  See how many more goals you end up making and how it changes your business for the better. Thinking Ahead for the New Year

It’s now the final quarter of the year, and you are probably already thinking ahead into 2017.  Do you remember the goals you made for 2016? Here are 4 questions to ask yourself:
  1.  What were your biggest achievements in 2016?
  2.  What were your biggest challenges?
  3.  What goals did you meet in 2016?
  4.  What goals should you set for 2017?
You need to recognize your progress from this year and make changes if you need to for next year.  But, with the holidays coming up, how are you supposed to find the time to work on those goals? Time is one of the biggest excuses a business owner uses for not getting things done. Maybe it’s “time” to evaluate your work life and your personal life.  Where are you spending most of your time?  Where are you spending most of your money?  Make some decisions regarding what’s important and what’s not.  Get your priorities in order, measure them against your goals, and work on new goals for 2017. Don’t get trapped in your business.  Many of us spend every waking hour working at our business.  Don’t just RUN your business…OWN your business.  It’s probably time to delegate those priorities so you can not only meet your goals for 2017, but so you can get out of those everyday operations and start owning your business. Take some time every day to reflect on yourself and your business goals.  What still needs to get accomplished this year?  What’s left to do to meet some of those remaining 2016 goals?  Plan to get them done before you have to start working on your 2017 goals. And remember…make your goals ACHIEVABLE, but keep them CHALLENGING enough to keep you working at your best! PJ's New Pic (smaller) ActionCoach-logo
YOUR CHALLENGE:  Take 10 minutes each day to reflect on your business!  Do you want to work less next year? If you would like further information or you have any questions about this blog, you can email me at pjweiland@actioncoach.com or call 847-739-3079.

5 Ways to Stay Positive

It’s admittedly difficult to have a happy disposition 100% of the time.  But it is achievable to think positive when faced with difficulty.  You can learn to adjust your bad attitude and convey a happy temperament.  Here are some tips: 1.  Successful people are often more positive because they have conditioned themselves to recognize their emotions.  Your emotions drive and motive you.  They are not barriers, but often seem like they are.  By staying positive, you won’t get overwhelmed when something goes wrong. 2.  Positive-minded people can accept failure.  You need to approach challenges believing that you will succeed or that you will take something positive from your failure and do better the next time around. 3.  Happy, positive people often set many goals for themselves.  Goals help you stay motivated.  Stay on task.  Keep setting goals…meet one and start another one.  Desire to do better. 4.  Have some gratitude along the way.  Positive individuals are thankful for the people in their lives and for the things they have.  Remember, when you have to strive for something (like all those goals you are setting), you are usually more grateful for them because you earned them.  They weren’t just handed to you.  You created them and reached them!  That sure is something to be happy about! 5.  Positive people are easier and more pleasant to be around.  And happiness is contagious.  If you’re positive, you generally will attract other positive people.  Happiness comes back around because of the impact it has on others. Continue to stay positive and you will sustain success.  Whether it’s in your personal life or your business life, continue to learn, attend lectures, read, hone in on your skills and learn something new.  Your passions will continue to keep you happy!  And happiness is the key to being successful! YOUR CHALLENGE:  Set a monthly goal for yourself.  Does motivation and passion help you reach those goals?  Stay positive! If you would like further information or you have any questions about this blog, you can email me at pjweiland@actioncoach.com or call 847-739-3079.

4 Simple Steps to Getting Referrals

Most entrepreneurs agree that getting referrals is a key component to keeping their business successful.  But many of them don’t think they get enough, or ask for them as often as they would like to.  Why don’t you pursue them as much as you should?  Perhaps it’s because you are not developing the habit of doing so. 1.  Determine ways to actively pursue your clients.  Make it a habit to provide valuable information to them, so they will want to pass it onto someone else who might benefit from it. 2.  Give out special deals to those who refer others to you.  Impress them with your dedication and drive. 3.  If you get complimented on your work, thank them and automatically ask them if they know anybody else who could use your services. 4.  Keep track of how many referrals you ask for each day or each week.  Write it down or strive for a goal each month. You’d be amazed at how many referrals you’ll get by keeping yourself in the routine of these 4 simple steps.  And always remember to be consistent and enthusiastic when asking for referrals and when sharing your business with others!! PJ's New Pic (smaller)  ActionCoach-logo
YOUR CHALLENGE:  Ask for 1 referral every week.  Get into the habit of asking and soon you’ll be building your business off of referrals alone. If you would like further information or you have any questions about this blog, you can email me at pjweiland@actioncoach.com or call 847-739-3079.

Inspire Your Employees

Employee 1 Are your employees unmotivated?  Are they listless?  Maybe they’re disinterested in their work?  Then it’s time to inspire them!  Inspired employees want to use their skills to their fullest potential.  And you want them to passionately strive to achieve company goals. Give your workers an added jolt of energy.  Help them love coming to work every day!  You may be asking, “How do I accomplish this?” If your employees are filling their basic needs with their paychecks, then they often need meaningful work to stay motivated.  They need to see their ability to make a difference and a contribution.  Meaningful work helps employees perform at their peak and to play a vital role in the success of your business. Look at yourself first: If you are not passionate about your business, then chances are, you are not able to inspire your employees. Re-energize your own enthusiasm about your business! Focus on the talents of the employees: When people get to do what they love and what they do best, they often perform at their highest abilities, giving your employees the option to shine. Reward your employees: If you have motivated employees who take smart risks and help achieve a company goal, make sure you reward them.  It will not only boost their morale, but it will inspire them to do achieve again and again. Thank your workers: Remember to express your gratitude.  Inspired employees are worth their weight in gold. Do what you must to keep them happy…and on the payroll. Networking as a Marketing Strategy

Network (all-free-download)
The #1 reason businesses “network” is to increase leads to the business and make more money. When you ask a business owner where “networking’ ranks in importance in their marketing plans most will always say it’s in the top 3 strategies. So, if the #1 reason businesses join BNI, join a chamber, or other group is for networking and networking is one of the top marketing strategies…then it begs the question: What are you doing, reading, or attending to increase your knowledge and skills in networking? Here are some tips to make your networking an effective marketing strategy… Before you head out the door….
  • Be clear on ideal customers
  • Identify the best networking functions to attend (find out from others where your ideal customer ‘hangs out’)
  • Set goals for how many new prospects you’d like to meet at the event
In the moment….
  • Top 4 things that must exist if someone is going to buy from you: They must like you, believe you, have confidence in you, and trust you (if all four exist, they may buy from you. If any one of the four is missing, they will never buy from you.)
  • Of these four things (like, believe, confidence, and trust), like is the most important. It is the “ticket in the door”. A prospect must like you before they will ever believe you, have confidence or trust you. No one ever says, “I trust that person but I don’t like them…”
  • The “close” in networking is to get an ideal target to agree to a one-on-one follow-up meeting. Get a very specific commitment if possible.
After you connect with someone….
  • Prompt follow-up (Have a system for same day if possible.)
  • Send a personal note by mail! (The average worker in the U.S. gets 52 emails a day and over 50% are deleted without opening. 6 billion individual pieces of mail are delivered each year in the U.S. – 75% are thrown in the trash without opening. But, over 90% of handwritten, hand addressed notes are opened and viewed – which statistic do you choose?)

YOUR CHALLENGE:  Take a look at the current networking you are doing and look for two ways that you can improve your effectiveness. If you would like further information or you have any questions about this blog, you can email me at pjweiland@actioncoach.com or call 847-739-3079.
